Analytical Writing Assessment

In this section, you are being asked to write essays. The time limit for each essay is 30 minutes. In the first essay, the desired outcome is that you logically analyse an elaborate on any given argument whilst in the second one you are expected to analyze an issue. After you have handed in your essays, they are being read and graded on a scale ranging from zero to six. This reading process involves two readers who dig through the essay after each other. In case their ratings vary by at least one point, a third reader comes into play and is asked to come up with a final rating.

Be aware that the first reader is not human. It is a computer program that delves into your grammar, vocabulary and syntax skills and comes up with a rating based on a very complex algorithm. The second person reading through your essays is a human being.

It is not expected that you are perfect but by following the basic rules of the English language when it comes to sentence building, communication of ideas and the ability to express oneself using the written language you are destined to receive a higher rating on this subsection of the GMAT exam.

Keep in mind that this section is not part of your total score and is evaluated separately. The ratings on this test range from zero, which equals total failure, to six, which equals brilliance and an outstanding work.
